When we first arrive at rehearsal (which we call practice in the performing arts), we receive our folders and a pencil, and then we take our seats. While we wait for everyone to find their places, we might have a music riddle to solve or a sight-reading exercise to try. Next, we warm up our bodies and brains with singing games, exercises, echo singing, and making funny sounds. Just like athletes stretch and warm up their muscles, we prepare our voices for the work ahead. Then, we start learning the pieces of music we will sing for our next concert. We read sheet music and sing in different languages. We imagine and create worlds and stories through the songs we sing. We laugh, whisper, dance, shout, and sometimes cry when the music touches our hearts. We always feel full of life and love when rehearsal is over, often with our favorite choir song playing in our heads for days afterward. After a few months, we finally get to perform. It's the most unbelievably thrilling experience!y thrilling experience!
